Chaparral 1 s/n:001

Chaparral 1 kit made by Nestor models with P/N: 001 and built by me. Although this kit is a good representation of the real Chaparral 1. I actually added minimum fine details to improve it as a model. The following was added: just a real representation of the connection of the instruments behind the dash to the front bulkhead
•1961
•s/n: 1-001. This first s/n differs from the others because it has 2 slots to draw air to the carburators instead of a cover with an opening in the back.
•1961 Riverside LA Times #66 Team: Chaparral Cars Inc. with Jim Hall 3rd OA.
•Chevrolet V8cyl ohc 5205cc 300hp 6500rpm 6 Stromberg T10 carbs 4sp 671kg 5 built (4 with aluminium body and the other sold without a body work)

Chaparral 1 s/n:003

Chaparral 1 kit made by MA Scale models with P/N: 70 and built by me and then modified by me not to represent the 1961 Riverside LA Times #66 s/n 001 but instead to represent the 1962 Sebring 12hrs #10 s/n 003. Although this kit has allot of molding junction marks that need to be deburred it is a reasonable representation of the real Chaparral 1 exception made for the front end which I find very flat. It also fall short of the fine details that I actually added to improve it as a model. The following was added: 1-rear bulkhead in photo-etching metal 2- a small front low air dam in photo-etching metal 3-better instrument decal 4-real representation of the instruments behind the dash using aluminium piping of the appropriate dimension also with wiring connecting the instruments to the front bulkhead 5-connection of the steering between the dash and the front bulkhead.
Later after purchasing a Chaparral 1 by Nestor also representing 1961 Riverside LA Times #66 car I decided to convert it into a 1962 Sebring 12hrs #10 car because this being the s/n 003 it had a flatter front end. For that effect I added the 2 scoops bordering the cockpit; the 2 additional front lights and the external fuel refueling point on the right hand side of the car,
•1962
•s/n: 1-003. This car differs from the others because it had 2 scoops next to the cockpit to draw air to cool down the rear disk brakes and for the night driving at Sebring they added 2 more headlights.
•1962 Sebring 12hrs #10 Team: Chaparral Cars Inc. with Jim Hall and Chuck Daigh finishing 6th OA and 1st in P4.0 class (winner +17 laps) Grid: 10th.
•Chevrolet V8cyl ohc 5205cc 300hp 6500rpm 6 Stromberg T10 carbs 4sp 671kg 5 built (4 with aluminium body and the other sold without a body work)

Chaparral 1 s/n: 001 - Laguna Seca

Chaparral 1 kit made by Midlantic models with P/N: 20 and built by me. Although this kit has pretty good resin casting it falls short on cockpit details that I actually had to add to make it a decent model. The following was added: 1- sides of the rear bulkhead we could see the wheels, they had to be closed 2- The engine cowling openings had to be opened and an engine installed inside as well as brake oil tanks 3-real representation of the instruments behind the dash using aluminium piping of the appropriate dimensions also with wiring connecting the instruments to the front bulkhead 4-perforated side panels inside the doors.
•1962
•s/n: 1-001. This first s/n that in 1961 had 2 slots to draw air to the carburetors now in 1962 it was modified to come with a cover with an opening in the back and a different front inlet to the radiator.
•1962 Laguna Seca #66 Team: Chaparral Cars Inc. with Jim Hall did not finished (5th in heat 1 and stalled in the pits for heat 2).
•Chevrolet V8cyl ohc 5205cc 300hp 6500rpm 6 Stromberg T10 carbs 4 speed gearbox 671kg 5 built (4 with aluminium body and the other sold without a body work).

Chaparral 1 s/n: 003

Chaparral 1 model made by me starting from a Maserati birdcaje from Progetto K with Ref.: 22. For more information see: Chaparral 1 from a Maserati birdcage
•1961 to 1963
•S/N: 1-003 (1962)
•1962 Road America 500; #4 Team: Chaparral Cars Inc. with Jim Hall and Hap Sharp 1st OA
•Chevrolet V8cyl ohc 5205cc 300hp 6500rpm 6-Stromberg T10 carbs 4 speed gearbox 671kg 5 built wheelbase=88”
Compared to car s/n: 001 this chassis had a slightly larger wheelbase to provide more cockpit space to make it less cramped. This car was equipped with a chin spoiler, very likely the first ever use of a low front spoiler.
